About Us

On April 13, 1973, the dream to find a new company, Pacific Forest Industries, Inc., became a reality.  Merl Seastrom - the founder of new corporation - after ten years of training and management with International Paper Company, decided to take his experience and management training and build a new business.

With $1,265.00 and the desire to succeed and the willingness to work extensively, the new company began the production of multi-wall bags.  After several successful years in business the company expanded and purchased three Matador Lid End bags from International Paper Company in Jackson, Mississippi. With this new product line, the sales for the company tripled.  Pacific Forest Industries, Inc. is now selling such giant companies such as Coors, Budweiser, American Can and Continental Can with sales in five Western States.

In 1981, Merl Seastrom (the owner and founder of PFI) returned to Pepperdine University in Malibu, California to pursue his Master’s Degree and earn an MBA in business. His thesis was on the future prospects of the paper bag industry; and wow, did he get his eyes opened!

The paper bag industry was stagnant and was in a declining market with the coming of plastic bags.

After graduating with his MBA in 1983, the bag equipment was sold, and the company purchased three sheeters and entered the paper converting industry. It was perfect timing, as the paper mills in the United States were phasing out their converting operations and were moving into the sale of rolls only of paper and paperboard.

After several years of converting rolls of materials for converters, the opportunity to purchase several die-cutters surfaced. With the acquisition of the die cutting equipment, the company was positioned to enter the box industry. A post straight line gluer was purchased and the company was manufacturing folding cartons.  Offset printing presses were added next along with two more Bobst die-cutters. Finally, additional folding and gluing machines were installed and placed into production.

Today, 34 years later Pacific Forest Industries, Inc. has become a major player in the folding carton industry in Southern California. Capable of manufacturing almost any type of folding carton, Pacific Forest Industries, Inc. is staffed with many well qualified and well experienced employees. The company also owns all of the other necessary equipment to complement the major pieces of converting equipment used to make folding cartons.
